The verses go on to say that God sees our tears, hears our prayers, and has a plan to use us. After all God sent is only Son, that if we would believe in Him, we would gain eternal life. The child refereed in this song is a child of God, but also could represent a literal child that a mother is singing to encourage them of Gods love.
